美國總統川普最新在其社交媒體Twitter帳戶留言，說：「與中國的談判已經開始！除非延長，否則90天是由我們在阿根廷舉行的精彩和非常溫暖的晚宴開始。」
他又說：「貿易代表萊特希澤(Bob Lighthizer)將會與財政部長姆紐欽(Steve Mnuchin)、國家經濟委員會主席庫德洛(Larry Kudlow)、商務部長羅斯(Wilbur Ross)，以及白宮貿易顧問納瓦羅(Peter Navarro)密切合作，看看是否真的有可能與中國達成真實協議。如果可以，我們將把它完成。中國是要立即開始採購美國農產品。中美領導人都想達成協議，這是很有可能做到的。」
他亦提到：「不要忘記我是『關稅人』，當有人或國家想占我們國家巨大財富的便宜，我會讓他們付出代價...不過，如果能夠與中國達成公平協議，這協議將會完成所有我們要做的全部事情，我將很樂意簽署。讓談判開始吧！讓美國再次強大！」
川普的言論實證兩國定下90天的貿易談判限期由上周六(12月1日)已開始。
萊特希澤是在1980年代，為了要「封殺」日本對美國的進口威脅，曾使用過配額及抽高關稅政策的官員，與現時川普警告中共同出一轍。他早於2010年已向美國國會指控，中共正在威脅美國經濟，是傳統「鷹派」。
